Drill Name: Partner Tennis Ball Toss/Bounce Behind the Back Basketball Drill

Equipment Needed: 2 basketballs, 2 tennis balls, and a partner.

Goals of the Drill

  • Work on ball handling, hand-eye coordination, and thinking.

 

Coaching Points

  • Stay low in a ball-handling stance.
  • Keep your eyes up and make a good toss to your partner each time.
  • Know which player is bouncing and which is tossing each time.

 

Basketball Drill Instructions

  • Each player will start with a basketball in their right hand and a tennis ball in their left.
  • Facing each other, they will both start to dribble at the same time.
  • They are going to exchange the tennis balls with each other simultaneously.
  • One player is going to bounce, and the other is going to toss.
  • While the tennis balls are in the air, the players will make a behind the back move with a basketball to their other hand.
  • They must now catch the tennis ball with the hand that just had the basketball.
  • Continue this for 30-60 seconds and switch which player bounces/tosses have way through.
  • To make this basketball drill more difficult, the coach can call out “switch” at any time, and the players have to switch who is bouncing and who is tossing the tennis ball.
