The post defender ball screen series basketball drill is designed to help the ball handler learn how to attack the big man off of the ball screen action. This specific basketball drill will simulate two different ways that the post player may hedge on the ball screen. They are either going to hard hedge up the line, or they are going to flat hedge the ball screen. Depending on which way the post shows, the guard will attack in a different way, and the player will be able to work on finishing at the basket. They must know how to handle any type of ball screen defense that the defense throws at them.

Basketball Drill Instructions
- There will be a partner on the wing setting a ball screen and the other partner behind them with a pad simulating the post defender.
- The coach with the pad can guard the ball screen in two different ways.
- The first way is a flat hedge, and when this happens, the guard will immediately attack the post defender.
- The second way is a hard hedge straight up the line, and that means that the guard will retreat-dribble and then attack when the post defender runs back to their man (coach must simulate this).
- Do 4-6 repetitions at each kind of hedge and then switch sides and repeat.
- The player can finish at the basket with whatever type of finish you choose; floater, pull up, athletic finish, etc.
