The reverse reaction basketball rebounding drill is great for improving your reaction quickness when the shot goes up. Usually, the first player to react to the shot after it goes up will have the best chance of getting the board. This basketball drill works on rebounding and finishing around the basket after you get an offensive rebound. The double shot fake is a great move to use against an aggressive shot blocker or multiple players down in the paint trying to block your shot. Basketball rebounding drills like this teach you how to become a better rebounder and what to do with the basketball once you get the rebound.

Equipment Needed: 1 basketball and a partner.

Goals of the Drill

  • Work on defensive slides/conditioning, reaction quickness to the rebound, and then finish around the basket with a double shot fake move.

 

Coaching Points

  • Stay low on the defensive slide and push yourself.
  • Get your head turned around to locate the basketball as quickly as you can and then go get the ball, don’t wait for it to come to you.
  • Visualize the defender guarding you and practice selling your shot fake.

 

Basketball Drill Instructions

  • The partner will start with the basketball at the free-throw line, and the player will stand on a lane line about halfway up, facing away from the basket.
  • Now the player is going to begin defensive sliding back and forth across the paint.
  • When the partner throws the ball up off the backboard, the player must turn around, locate the basketball, and then go rebound it.
  • Take a dribble if necessary to get to the basket but shot fake twice and then finish with a layup or dunk.
  • Get the ball out of the net and then reset for the repetition.
  • Usually, go anywhere from 8-12 reps per player.
