As a player, if you prove that you can hit the 12-15 mid-post shot out of the triple threat position, you will be able to set up the shot fake and attack move. It is imperative to sell your shot fake for this move and make it look exactly the same as your regular shot before pulling it down and attacking.
Another big part of this move is the footwork. After you get the defender up off the ground, you need to make sure you are attacking the basket in a straight line. If you go to the side after the shot fake, you allow the defender to recover and challenge your shot. This is a great basketball drill that you can do with the entire team or by yourself because it doesn’t require anyone to rebound or pass the ball.

Goals of the Drill

Coaching Points
- Attack the basket on a straight line and be violent with the move.
- Try to only use one dribble when attacking.
- Keep your eyes up when facing up so that you can see the floor.
- Sell your shot fake. The goal is to make it look exactly like your regular shot before pulling the ball down and attacking.
Basketball Drill Instructions
- Players will start on the block with a basketball and spin it out to themselves in the mid-post.
- As they catch the basketball, they will reverse pivot and only square up far enough so that their shoulder is pointed at the basket.
- They will read the defense/defender and then square all the way up, shot fake, and then attack to the middle or the baseline (work on both).
- Take one dribble and finish at the basket.
- Get the rebound and then reset on the opposite baseline and do the same move.
- Continue alternating back and forth.
- You can do this basketball finishing drill for a set number of shots, makes, or time.
