Tight Space Any Move Basketball Drill

 

When you are dribbling the basketball through traffic, you want to keep the ball tight to your body to prevent turnovers. You also may need to make a move without any notice if a defender steps up or reaches for the basketball.

This one ball basketball dribbling drill is great for simulating dribbling through traffic and keeping the basketball tight to your body. As you dribble through the lane or in transition, there are always going to be defenders hands and feet in the way, and you have to be able to change the ball from hand to hand with ease to prevent losing the basketball; this basketball drill will help you work on that.

Drill Name: Tight Space Any Move Basketball Drill

Equipment Needed: 1 basketball and 5 cones.

Goals of the Drill

 

Coaching Points

  • Keep the basketball as close to you as you can.
  • Stay in a low dribbling stance when going through the cones.
  • Keep your eyes up and be explosive coming out of the cones.

 

Basketball Drill Instructions

  • Have a line of 5 cones starting at half court and going to the top of the key; cones should be about a foot apart.
  • The player is going to start at half court with a basketball.
  • They are going to take a rhythm dribble and then make any move they want.
  • They will continue this all the way through the cones.
  • Once they get past the last cone, they will explode forward for a pull-up or a finish at the basket.

** The coach can predetermine the finish if desired.
