Wall Ball Reaction Basketball Drill

 

When a guard drives to the basket, the big man needs to rotate and keep his hands up, ready to receive the pass. The pass may come from any angle and could be soft or hard. So the big man really needs to have his hands ready and then quickly react to the pass. This wall ball tennis basketball drill is a great basketball drill for developing good hands and reaction time. It can be done with big men or guards to work on hand-eye coordination.

Equipment Needed: Tennis Balls (6-10), Partner, and a Wall.

Goals of the Drill

  • Work on developing good quick hands.

 

Coaching Points

  • Stay in a defensive stance the whole time and stay low.
  • Try to catch the tennis balls with two hands every time if you can.

 

Basketball Drill Instructions

  • Have the player stand facing the wall about 6 feet from it.
  • The coach will stand behind the player with all of the tennis balls.
  • When the drill starts, the player will drop into a defensive slide and slide back and forth in an 8-10 feet range.
  • Whenever the coach feels like it, they will throw a tennis ball against the wall, and the player has to react and catch the ball.
  • If you catch the ball, drop it down behind you, and keep sliding.
  • If you miss, keep sliding and get ready for the next ball.
  • This basketball dribbling drill can go for a desired amount of time, catches, or throws.
