Goals of the Drill

Coaching Points

  • Stay light on your feet and jump as quickly as you can while maintaining good form and execution.
  • Don’t let your heels touch the ground when you are jumping, and try not to let the jump rope touch the ground as you swing it under your feet.

 

Jump Rope Drill Instructions

  • Start jumping rope with your feet in a staggered position, facing your feet forward.
  • Every time you jump, you will switch which foot is forward, keeping the staggered stance when you land each time.
  • Continue this motion for the desired amount of time.
  • Usually, 20-30 seconds at full speed is good.

  • Improve footwork, quickness, and vertical jump.

 

Coaching Points

  • Push yourself to go as fast as you can, but make sure that you are jumping as high as you can each time.
  • Stay light on your feet, don’t let your heels touch, and try not to let the jump rope hit the ground.
  • Really focus on having good footwork and jump high even as you get tired.
  • Be careful about doing any jump rope drills on a hard surface for too long of a time.
  • Wood or rubber floors are recommended.

  • Begin jumping rope regularly off of two feet low to the ground and every 3 or 4 jumps, jump as high as you can.

Coaching Points

  • Stay light on your feet, bring your knees up to your waist every time, and try not to let the rope touch the ground when you swing it under you.

 

Jump Rope Drill Instructions

  • Start jumping rope and begin to start running forward while still swinging the rope.
  • You want to get your knees as high up as you can while running.
  • After you have run forward, start running backward while still keeping your knees high.
