Houston Rockets: Post Dive Hand Off Basketball Play (10-11)

These types of basketball plays are all about misdirection and spacing. All the action before the handoff is to make sure that defense isn’t sitting in help for the handoff. You always want to cut to score so if a player is wide open before the handoff you are going to hit them for a shot but the play is really to open the floor up for the handoff action. That means that the players off the ball need to keep good spacing and be ready to shoot if their man over helps on the play.

Play Goal: Get the defense to shift and worry about their man cutting and then not be in a position to help on the handoff.

Play Tips: Cut hard and be a threat to score because you might get the ball if you are open. Must run the play with pace. If you don’t then the defense will still be in a position to help on the handoff.
