This resistance band workout is going to work on being explosive, and being able to rebound the basketball out of area. Most of the time a rebound is not going to come right down to a player sitting in the lane. It is going to come off the rim out of area, and the player must be able to quickly locate it and then go track it down. One of the best players in the NBA at doing this is Joakim Noah. He is able to box his man out, located the basketball, and then go get it at its highest point.
Being able to do this and get to the basketball first, means that you need to be able to quickly explode to the basketball. By using the resistance band, you are training your body to be even quicker and more explosive. That way when you get into a real game situation and take off the resistance bands. You will be able to be more explosive. This is a great basketball rebounding drill to add to your workouts and will translate over to a game really well.
Drill Name: Resistance Band Rebounding Drill
Drill Goal: Work on rebounding and being an explosive jumper.
Equipment Needed: 1 basketball, 2 tennis balls, a heavy ball, 2 partners, and a resistance band.
Tips: To make the drill more simple you can just do it with a basketball. Player needs to have their hands up ready to rebound the ball before the ball goes up. Don't wait for the basketball to come down, but go up and get it at its highest point. Challenge yourself to be as explosive and quick to the basketball as you can.
Directions: Player is going to start at the free throw line area with a resistance band around their waist, face towards the hoop. One partner will hold the other end of the resistance band, and the other will hold all the basketballs, tennis balls, etc. and stand behind the player. When the drill starts the player will chop their feet and get ready to rebound whatever type of ball is tossed off the backboard. When they see the ball go up, they will locate it, and then go grab it. As soon as the grab it they will set it off to the side, and get ready for the next rebound.
