This is not one of the more advanced basketball plays, but it works for two reasons; it is done in transition before the defense can get set and the offense maintains good floor spacing. There has to be room to operate on the screen and rescreen for this play to be effective and if a wing defender helps in on the ball screen action they will be open for a shot. All five offensive players must sprint the floor and get into position before the defense has a chance to get set and into their help defense. If run the right way this play is really hard to guard.
Play Name: Loyola: Transition High Ball Screen Rescreen Basketball Play (12-13)
Similar Plays: Utah Jazz: Side Ball Screen Basketball Play (07-08), San Antonio Spurs: Side Ball Screen/Double Screen Basketball Play, Villanova Wildcats: Handoff Side Ball Screen Basketball Play (11-12)
Play Goal:Â Set a high ball screen to rescreen in transition and then play out of it.
Play Tips: All five offensive players must run the floor and get set. Must keep good spacing so that the defense cannot help in on the ball screen without leaving a shooter open. If someone is open after the first screen, go for it and forget the rescreen action.
