These types of basketball plays are all about misdirection and spacing. All the action before the hand off is to make sure that defense isn't sitting in help for the hand off. You always want to cut to score so if a player is wide open before the hand off you are going to hit them for a shot but the play is really to open the floor up for the hand off action. That means that they players off the ball need to keep good spacing and be ready to shoot if their man over helps on the play.
Play Name: Houston Rockets: Post Dive Hand Off Play (10-11)
Play Goal: Get the defense to shift and worry about their man cutting and then not be in position to help on the hand off.
Tips: Cut hard and be a threat to score because you might get the ball if you are open. Must run the play with pace. If you don't then the defense will still be in position to help on the hand off.
