Anytime you can get the defense shifting and trying to catch up before a player comes off of a ball screen the better chance you will have of a successful basketball play. The reason for this is because the big man's defender will be late showing on the ball screen, and the help defense won't be set to help. That is why this basketball play is going to start out with a down screen action before getting into the ball screen. If a good down screen is set on the post defender, he/she will be too far behind the play to get a good hedge on the ball screen. This equals a great driving angle for the ball handler to create for themselves or a teammate.
