By having the shooter first set a diagonal screen before coming up for the handoff you make his defender help on the diagonal screen. This is a great basketball play because it forces the defense to give up a back screen layup or allow the shooter to come off the handoff action open for a shot. The key is having the shooter set a really good diagonal screen to make his/her man help and then get a good screen/handoff to get open for the shot.

Play Goal: Either get a layup off the diagonal screen or force the shooter’s defender to have to help and get an open look off of the handoff action.
Play Tips: The shooter must set a good diagonal screen to make his man help or get an open layup for the big. The post player that is giving the handoff needs to clean up the shooter’s man with a good screen as well after they hand the ball off.
