Being able to read the defense can get the offense a lot of easy baskets. It simply involves taking advantage of what the defense is giving up. This basketball play is all about just making the read, and seeing how the defense is guarding on the handoff. If the defender is playing behind the player is going to use the handoff action, but if the defender is trying to deny the handoff, then the player will fake the handoff and cut backdoor. It all comes down to the offensive player being able to understand how the defense is guarding them, and then exploiting them.
