Reverse Between the Legs Rhythm Basketball Dribbling Drill

 

The reverse between the legs move is a great move to use against an over-aggressive defender that has all of their weight moving in one direction and is not on balance. You can plant your same side leg and change directions quickly as you reverse between the legs to your other hand. Being able to do this quickly will leave the defender running past you still out of control.

Great ball handlers in basketball can do moves like this because they have spent the time in the gym mastering the move first. That is why one ball basketball dribbling drills like this are great to use when working on different ball-handling moves. They allow the player to get a bunch of repetitions at the same move in a short period of time. This will allow the player to really develop confidence in using a specific move.

Equipment Needed: 1 basketball and 8-10 cones.

Goals of the Drill

 

Coaching Points

  • Stay low in an athletic stance during the basketball drill and really look to change up your speeds and direction quickly when you make the reverse between the legs move.
  • Keep your eyes up and scan the floor as you are going through the cones, don’t develop the bad habit of looking down.
  • Don’t be afraid to mess up and make a mistake; challenge yourself to go at a high level when you go through the cones.

 

Basketball Drill Instructions

  • Set up 8-10 cones in a straight line with each cone about 2 feet apart.
  • The player is going to start with the ball on one end of the cones.
  • When the basketball drill starts, the player will take a stationary rhythm dribble and then go reverse between the legs at the first cone.
  • They will immediately repeat the move and continue through the cones repeating this same pattern.
  • Go through the line of cones 2-3 times.
