This basketball shooting drill is great because it can be done all by yourself. It shows that you don’t have to have a rebounder to get in the gym to get up quality shots and become a better basketball shooter. Another great thing about this basketball drill is that you can also work on your conditioning and your footwork coming out for a shot. Make sure that you come into your shot the same way every time, and really build that muscle memory. That way, when you get into a game, you won’t have to think about it, and it will just be natural to you.

Goals of the Drill
- Work on shooting without a rebounder and improve conditioning/footwork.
Coaching Points
- Make sure that you get your body squared up each time before you shoot, get your body out, and then back in so that your momentum is moving towards the basket.
- Be mentally tough, and don’t worry if you missed the last shot; focus on the next shot.
- Practice proper basketball shooting form on each shot.
- To make this off the dribble basketball shooting drill more difficult, you can place a time limit on it.
Basketball Drill Instructions
- Start with the basketball under the basket and dribble out to either corner.
- As you get out there, you can either spin the ball to yourself or dribble it a little bit harder to simulate a pass being made.
- Get your body squared up to the basket and then shoot the ball.
- Chase down your shot and then dribble out to the other corner and shoot again.
- Continue going back and forth until you have made the desired amount of shots (usually 4, 6, or 8).
- After you finish shooting the basketball from the corners, you will immediately move onto the wings and then finally the top of the key.
- When you shoot at the top of the key, you will rotate which way you come into your shot each time (right and left side).
- The drill is over once you have made all the shots from the different spots.
One Response
This shooter is in crazy good shape. We do this drill and make sure we have defibrillator machine handy. What a testament to the importance of legs and shooting in conditioning.
