Steve Nash Double Crossover Partner Passing Basketball Drill

Steve Nash Double Crossover Partner Passing Basketball Drill

Being able to handle the ball as a point guard in basketball is just one part of the equation; you also have to see the floor and make the pass to the open teammate. Sometimes, though, while handling the basketball, you may see a teammate come open off of a down screen, back cut, etc., and you may not have enough time to pick the basketball up with both hands before making the pass. So you must be able to make a quality pass with one hand off the dribble; this type of pass is called a push pass.

This basketball passing drill will work specifically on this type of pass, and it will also add in some ball handling as well. The goal of basketball drills like this is to help the player get a lot of repetitions at passing off the dribble. Because to make this type of pass in a game, the player needs to be comfortable with it. If the player’s pass isn’t sharp or on target, there is a good chance that it will be a turnover. So really, make sure that you have mastered this type of pass before using it in a game.

Coaching Points

  • Push yourself during the drill, and don’t be afraid to mess up or lose the ball.
  • When you make the pass, really try to focus on being accurate and snapping the pass.
  • You don’t want the pass to have a lot of loft on it, but rather be a straight line pass.

Basketball Drill Instructions

  • Both players will face each other about 8 feet apart in an athletic stance and with a basketball in their right hand.
  • At the same time, they will take a stationary dribble with their right hand, make a double crossover move, and then make a pass with their right hand to their partner.
  • As soon as they catch the pass from their partner, they are going to repeat the movement.
  • After about 20-30 seconds, switch hands so that the left-hand starts the drill and makes the pass.
