A lot of times when it comes to practice there are only so many minutes to get in what you want to work on, so it is important that when you do do skill development drills that a lot of players are involved in the drill, and that there are a lot of repetitions in a short period of time.
This team basketball drill is going to accomplish just that. It will allow the players to get a lot of high quality reps at finishing off of one foot in a short period of time. The drill also implements some shooting off of the dribble as well so that players are constantly working during this drill.
Drill Name: One Foot Team Finishing Drill
Similar Drills: Off the Dribble Team Warm Up Shooting Drill
Drill Goal: Work on finishing off of one foot.
Equipment Needed: 1 basketball per player, a passer, and 2 obstacles (chairs, cones, trashcan, D-Man).
Tips: Once the player gives up the ball they need to sprint to the cut. Make sure that you don't travel on the finish and really look to extend out past the dummy defender obstacle.
Directions: The players are going to start in a line out on the left sideline area 6-8 fee from the 3 point line, the passer will be located just outside the left elbow area. Set up one obstacle just to the right of the rim in the paint and the other on the side basket 10-12 feet out and to the right. When the drill starts, the first player in line will pass the ball to the coach/manager and then cut hard to the basket through the center of the paint.
They will receive the ball back as they cut through the paint, and without taking a dribble they will take two steps and finish off of one foot. The player will gather their own rebound, dribble to the side basket for a pull up jump shot, and then get back in line. The next player in line will go once the coach/manager has passed the ball back to the cutter.
If you do not have a side basket just have the players get back in line after their layup. To make this drill a competition set up a scoring system. Layups = 1 point and pull up makes = 2 points. First player to 10 points wins.
