Handling the basketball on the move is a completely different feel from dribbling the basketball in a stationary position. So it is important that you spend time working on both types of dribbling. This ball handling drill is going to work on changing directions at a high speed without having to stop or slow down. You would use this type of dribble move in transition when a defender steps up to cut you off. A less experienced ball handler would either have to stop or slow down, which would most likely end the break or the player would be out of control and commit a turnover.
The goal of this drill is to get the ball handler comfortable with making moves at a high rate of speed. It will really allow for a faster transition and easier scoring opportunities. This is a great basketball drill that you can do with your whole team and can also be used as a form of conditioning as well because the players are basically sprinting while dribbling the basketball.
