A freeze fake shot is a great move to use, once you have mastered it. If you are not comfortable using the freeze fake shot, it is going to end up being a low percentage shot. However, if you have practiced it and have become efficient at it then, you can use it to measure up your defender when they closeout. If they don’t get all the way out or don’t close out with high hands, you can bury the three-pointer. This basketball drill will help you learn how to master the freeze fake shot and make you a harder player to guard.
Drill Name: Movement Freeze Fake 3 Point Basketball Shooting Drill
Drill Goal: Work on the freeze fake 3 point shot, footwork, and conditioning.
Equipment Needed: 2 basketballs, a chair, and 2 partners.
Drill Tips: You are going to have to put a little more on the shot then you would just normally shooting to keep the shot from being short. Jump straight up and down and hold your follow through.
Drill Directions: Set up a chair 3 or 4 feet back from the 3 point line anywhere around the arc. The player is going to start on one side of the chair and step in to receive a pass. Now the player is going to freeze fake the imaginary defender and then shoot the 3 pointer. After they shoot and wait to see if the shot goes in they are going to backpedal around the chair and come out the other side for the same type of shot. Continue this back and forth for the desired amount of time, shots, or makes.
